Sam and Matt kicked off the new year at Rosewood Farms with the most magical wedding. Family and friends joined them on a beautiful, rainy winter day to celebrate their love!
Sam and Matt first met back in 2011 at their local grocery store. This is how Sam remembered their first encounter.
“One of my best friends was working at a small grocery store at the start of our senior year that was right down the road from our high school. She had asked me to go with her after school to pick up her paycheck and while she was talking to some co-workers, I went over to the prepared food section to browse around. I ordered my food and was looking for my wallet as I happened to glare up and see this man standing behind the counter looking at me. I instantly got butterflies, but I didn’t look away. We held eye contact for a few seconds, and I had a feeling that I never had before. I still can’t explain it! I never thought the saying ‘love at first sight’ was real, but maybe it is. In the car on the way home, I asked my friend who he was, and she told me his name was Matt and she thought we would be perfect together. Unknowingly, she slipped him my number the next day and told him to text me. I was shy and wasn’t really looking for a relationship at the time, so I waited six hours to text him back.”
Six hours later, Sam texted Matt back and their relationship began.
In 2015, after three years of dating, Matt proposed on Easter morning.
“He led me into his parent’s sunroom where the sun was shining in from every window. He sat me down and handed me an Easter basket that was filled with Easter eggs. He told me to open them and I instantly knew what was about to happen. My hands were shaking as I opened one at a time and as I popped open the last egg, I saw a small glisten from the ring and looked up to see Matt kneeling down on one knee.”
Sam and Matt began planning their wedding a few months after the engagement but decided to push it back due to Sam’s parents’ separation. A few years later, they started planning again and decided on the date, January 3, 2020, their eight-year anniversary.
As they rebooted their wedding planning, the first thing on Sam and Matt’s to-do list was finding a venue. A co-worker of Sam’s told her that a friend was opening up a wedding venue and that she and Matt should check it out. That's where Rosewood Farms comes in!
“Rosewood Farms was the only venue we toured. We knew as we were touring it, that it was the perfect place for us. It was under construction when we first saw it, but we could see the potential. It was awesome to see more of Rosewood come to life within the year leading up the wedding. It is the perfect blend of rustic and elegance and I knew that I could make my bohemian dreams come to life there. Oh, and can we just talk about the chandeliers?!”
Sam and Matt, along with their planner from Pampas & Poppy Event Co., transformed The Rustic Barn and The Rose Barn into the perfect atmosphere that fit their unique style.
Sam loves bohemian culture and it was seen through all the decorations around the venue.
“Matt and I both are very minimalistic people. We knew right away that we wanted to add as little decorations and flowers as possible. In the reception space, we had greenery on all the tables and pampas grass in vases. We also hung macramé on the wall by our greeting table and on the backs of our chairs at our sweetheart table. We wanted to keep the decor to a minimum, since the venue speaks for itself! I think the minimalistic and bohemian vibe made our wedding unique!”
With so many beautiful moments throughout the day, we had to ask Sam and Matt what their favorite part of the day was.
“Our favorite moment from the wedding was right after the ceremony. We went off to the side of the barn as people were exiting the doors for the sparkler send-off. I looked and Matt and gave him a high five. He wrapped his fingers around mine and stared at me as his eyes filled up with tears. He pulled me in and gave me the biggest hug. We stood there holding each other and crying. People were walking past us to go outside but I didn’t even notice. Everything around us went quiet and in his arms, I forgot about everything.”
The day after the wedding, Sam asked their photographer, Kathy Davies, to send her some photos for her to share on social media. Kathy texted her in the afternoon and sent four photos, one of which she knew would be “the” photo. The type of picture that you show people when they ask how your wedding was... the picture that you make your phone wallpaper and print out and frame on your bedside table.
When Sam first saw this picture, she knew it was the one. Sam and Matt had such a great relationship with their photographer. Sam thinks Kathy knew when she sent it... that it perfectly represented their love.
Although it was difficult for Sam to chose her favorite detail of her wedding, she was really in love with all the candles. They had candles lit on every table and around the fireplace.
The candles created a romantic and inviting ambiance that made the couple and every guest feel so warm, especially since it was raining and foggy outside.
Special moments like these are the reasons why we love what we do at Rosewood Farms. We love being able to help couples create memories that will last a lifetime!
“Rosewood will always be special to us. It’s a place where we had all our family and friends together in one place, a place where we got to show people how much Matt and I truly love each other, and a place that we filled with so much love and laughter. We couldn’t picture a more perfect place to get married.”
